All public universities are required, by law, to offer community outreach programs to help promote education opportunity for all, including programs that focus on human rights and education opportunities for all. For example, in 2015 we created a pioneering program to allow a special admissions process for refugees and other asylum seekers from countries such as Haiti and Syria. We started a language education program (Portuguese as a Foreign Language) in order to support those students' adaptation to the academic community, as well as their own personal communities.
