Vimala College (Autonomous) Thrissur, affiliated to the University of Calicut is a government aided Arts, Science and Commerce College established in 1967. Ever since its inception, the Institution has been in the forefront of higher education in the State. The Institution offers 16 Under Graduate programmes (14 Aided, 2 Self Financing), 13 Post Graduate programmes (6 Aided, 7 Self Financing), and is a Centre for Research in English, Commerce, Physics, Social Work and Economics. It also offers two PG Diplomas and an advanced diploma programme. It is a vibrant participant in all UGC (Centre for Women Studies, B Voc, Community College) and Government initiatives (Additional Skills Acquisition Programme, Walk With a Scholar, Student Support Programme). The Institution has strength of 2566 students including B Voc and Community College, 148 faculty, 30 administrative and 30 support staff. The Institution was accorded Autonomy in 2015 and conferred the status of College with Potential for Excellence in 2016 by the UGC. The three National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Accreditations bestowed on the Institution the highest Grades prevalent at the time: Five Star (2001), ’A’ Grade with a CGPA of 3.3 (2008), ‘A’ grade with a CGPA of 3.5 (2014). The Institution has been recognized as a Mentor College by the NAAC in the Paramarsh scheme besides extending the period of accreditation from 5 to 7 years.
Please describe briefly any activities your institution is already carrying out, which are relevant to UNAI and its principles: 
The reservation policy of the central and state governments that seek to ensure fair and equal opportunity for students belonging to every community is meticulously followed by the College. Apart from the regular academic curriculum prescribed by the University, Vimala offers various programmes such as Add On Certificate Courses and coaching or training classes in various aspects aimed at enhancing the employability skills and extra-curricular skills of students. Coaching for competitive exams including the coveted UPSC Exams, career guidance and training, soft skill development, communication skills and preparation to attend interviews are some of the programmes. A dedicated scholarship cell functions as the link between the deserving students and financial assistance offered by the government and other agencies, in order to assure that no student has to give up education for want of money. The financial support thus guaranteed provides immense relief to the pupils. The College adheres to the tenets of Green Protocol and maintains a green campus. The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of the College engages in social interventions aimed at reaching out to the society. The volunteers offer services in community cleaning, relief and rehabilitation, blood donation and so on. Cadets enrolled in the National Cadet Corps (NCC) belong to the 7th Kerala Girls Battalion that was awarded the Best Battalion title by the State Government in 2019. The Cadets partner with the District Administration in offering commendable service in various aspects including keeping the district clean, social awareness programmes apart from the various college activities. Students of Vimala have been honoured with commendations by the District Collector for their contribution to relief work and rehabilitation efforts during the floods that shook the state in 2018. They involved in activities like food preparation and distribution, house sanitisation and reconstruction, providing awareness, clothes collection and distribution, counselling and mobilisation of resources. The College partners with the Unnath Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), a flagship programme of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, wherein five deserving villages (Madakkathara, Mulangunathukavu, Kolazhy, Thekkumkara and Vilvattom) in Thrissur have been identified for concerted endeavours aiding them in development. The aim is to work with the people of rural India in identifying developmental challenges and evolving appropriate solutions for accelerating sustainable growth. The primary efforts are directed towards developing linkages with several rural clusters to get involved in the planning process and to promote requisite interventions to improvise and expedite the developmental efforts of those clusters. Vimala College engages in several extension and outreach activities through such organs as the Vimala Community Extension Centre, Family Counselling Centre, Vimala Community Aid Sponsorship Scheme and Vimala College Educational and Charitable Trust. These units provide facilities like mentoring, counselling and academic and financial assistance to the deserving members of the public. With the aim of encouraging inter-cultural dialogue and understanding, the College has entered into MoUs and Cooperation Agreements with institutions in Nepal, Korea and South Africa, for student and faculty exchange from 2019 onwards, which are in the initial phase. Awareness programmes, sensitisation drives and interactions with authorities like the Consumer Commission, Cyber Cell, Police, Women’s Commission, service providers of Prevention of Domestic Violence Act and the like, have been regular programmes at the College. All efforts and endeavours of the College, its faculty, students, alumnae and other stakeholders have been towards contributing to the construction of a better society or community and an enlightened and empowered future.
