Please provide a brief description of your academic structure:
The Federal University of Western Bahia (UFOB) is among the youngest public higher education institutions of Brazil, founded in June 2013. UFOB emerged offering 30 undergraduate programs in five campi, designed containing multidisciplinary centers, located in the cities of Barra, Barreiras, Bom Jesus da Lapa, Luís Eduardo Magalhães and Santa Maria da Vitória. It also offers four graduate degrees in Master's level in Environmental Sciences, Pure and Applied Chemistry, Humanities and Social Sciences, Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer for Innovation and Mathematics. The University currently has around 3500 students, 350 teachers, and 250 administrative staff. UFOB is inserted in West Macro-region of Bahia, which is composed of 37 municipalities and has the mission to serve an estimated population of about 900.000 inhabitants, beyond the population of neighboring states: Tocantins, Goiás, Piauí, and North of Minas Gerais. The University has a network of modern laboratories, robotic and transdisciplinary, a library of a current collection containing over thirteen thousand copies and video conferencing rooms to meet students, postgraduate students, and their researchers. Research guidelines are connected to regional entrepreneurship and sustainable development, focusing additionally on the many riches of the region represented by its biodiversity and socio-cultural diversity.
Please describe briefly any activities your institution is already carrying out, which are relevant to UNAI and its principles:
Through its activities, UFOB seeks to develop cultural, scientific and technological knowledge that meets the development needs of the population of Western Bahia. Its research and extension projects focus on sustainable development and consider the region's racial and cultural diversity. Institutional actions in research aimed at boosting the natural resources of the Western Bahia Region, where there is great energy, mineral potential, food production capacity, plant diversity, zootechnical efficiency, among others. Research groups are responsible for national and international partnerships, which has leveraged priority thematic areas in the country. It is part of the institutional philosophy to stimulate entrepreneurship, through the validation of processes and services, which are investigated and the findings/process improvements are reversed for the benefit of young entrepreneurs, still benefiting schools, hospitals, rural communities, museums and society as a whole. Therefore, it is an institution where the scientific application is considered essential in the construction of its relevance. Initiatives to technological diffusion such as courses, technical workshops, conferences, seminars, plays, dance performances, trips, musical performances, and various sports tournaments are part of the academic life of UFOB. Participation in exhibitions and events enhances the integration and discloses the institution in Brazil and internationally. The relationship of UFOB with entrepreneurs, agencies, associations, and municipalities, has valued and keeps active the enthusiasm of the university community. The university integration with various sectors enhances the perception of the demands on the spot, an action that has led to being perceived as a higher education institution truly committed and participatory with their environment and their country. Some of the main projects are: 1) Project of the center of social technologies, whose aim is the strengthening of family farming in Brazil and Latin America. 2) Project to fight hunger in Benin - Africa, which aims at the technical improvement and the feeding of children in schools. 3) Student Training Project for the Exchange Program for Undergraduate Students (PEC-G), which provides students from developing countries the opportunity to pursue their undergraduate studies in Brazilian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The Training Project helps to integrate the knowledge that these students acquired at UFOB in their home countries.
