UNAI QUIZ: #WORK4UN

The United Nations, with offices in 193 countries and 37,000 employees, is the world’s largest universal international multilateral organization. It inspires people from around the world to join its mission of maintaining peace, advancing human rights and promoting justice, equality and development.

Because of its unique role in addressing global issues, the United Nations also offers exciting career opportunities that allow staff members to make a difference in the world while working for an inclusive organization. At United Nations Academic Impact we receive a lot of question from students and young professionals about working for the UN so we recently launched the #Work4UN series to introduce the different entry points for candidates of varied educational backgrounds and diverse professional experience to join the UN. The series is available in all official UN languages (English, French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic and Chinese) and you can hear directly from UN employees about their journey to joining the organization and what it’s like to work for the UN around the world.

Check out the series and test your knowledge on #Work4UN with our quiz!

Correct! Only a limited number of donor countries is currently participating in the JPO programme and their nationals are eligible to apply. Nationals from certain developing countries can be sponsored by a partner country. Also, each year countries that are un- or under-represented in the United Nations, are invited to take part in the YPP Programme. Therefore, only citizens of certain countries are eligible for these programmes and the list of countries may change every year. In terms of age, YPP candidates must be under 32 but the age limit for JPO candidates depends on the donor country. After two years in their first function and subject to satisfactory performance, the young professionals who joined the UN through the YPP programme may be granted a continuing contract. However, extension of JPO contracts depends on the available funding from donor countries so there is no guarantee of employment after the initial appointment.
