Sister Nivedita University was established through the Sister Nivedita University Act, 2017 (West Bengal Act, 2017) that was published in the official gazette of the Government of West Bengal vide notification No. 25-L, dated January 9, 2018. The University offers programmes in Science, Technology, Management, Pharmacy, Law, Nursing, Social Sciences, Humanities, Applied Arts and crafts at the undergraduate and postgraduate level and also offers PhD programs in some of these. Please describe briefly any activities your institution is already carrying out, which are relevant to UNAI and its principles: 
Some activities in the recent past: (1) Sustainability & Capacity Building - With support from Sister Nivedita University, New Town, Kolkata & British Deputy High Commission, Kolkata, eastern India region presented the YOUNG THINKERS’ CONFERENCE, 2018 titled “UK, West Bengal & Eastern India – Shared Prosperity for a Shared Future”, focusing on the role of West Bengal and Eastern India as a trade and investment hub in South Asia, and the potential cooperation with the UK on education, skills, technology and entrepreneurship on 11th August 2018. (2) Adoption of village - Sister Nivedita University is working closely with the District Authorities to adopt a village in north 24 paraganas and implement various women and youth development activities (3) All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Eastern Regional Officer, Kolkata in Coordination with Sister Nivedita University and Art of Living organized Youth Empowerment & Skills (Yes!+), 3 day program at Sister Nivedita University campus from 27th January to 30th January, 2019. The program was inaugurated on 27th January 2019 at 3 pm by the Hon'ble Chairman, AICTE (4) Sister Nivedita University (SNU) celebrated International Women’s Day on 8 March 2019 to salute and recognized the valour and contribution of women towards the society. Ms. Patricia L Hoffman, Hon’ble Consul General of the United States of America for the Kolkata Consular District was the Chief Guest of the event. Prof. Malabika Sarkar, Principal Advisor – Academic Dean of Faculty & Research, Ashoka University was the Keynote speaker. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Jay Treloar, Deputy Director- American Centre, Ms. Manami Kato-Vice Consul, Japanese Consulate. The felicitation was followed by a panel discussion moderated by the award winning journalist, Ms Neha Dixit.Eminent personalities such as Dr. Sucheta Tripathy, Prof. Krishna Roy, Ms. Indrani Chatterjee and Ms. Sujata Sen were a part of the panel discussion on “When Women Lead: Insights and Experience from Women in Power”. Renowned celebrities- Ms. Alakananda Ray, Ms Indrani Halder and Ms Sayantani Putatunda graced the occasion with their glorious presence. Sister Nivedita University felicitated specially enabled women- Ms Paromita Bera who has survived severe acid attack has now pursuing higher studies-SNU pledges to be beside her for as long as she continues her academics; Ms Puja Das, the HIV +ve girl who is now a full time employee of Ananda Ghar inspiring more girls like her to come forward and erase the social stigma against HIV and AIDS; Ms Lilufa Bibi and Ms Lilufa Khatun who are a part of the collective “Utthan” are trafficked victims who have fought back and made their mark in the society; Ms Megha Chakraborty, the blind girl who championed The Open National Chess competition for visually challenged and acquired FIDE rating and Ms Juhi Panja, the girl with paralytic hands, who has written Madhyamik exams with legs without a writing assistant.
