United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) member institution New York University Shanghai developed itsGoGreen initiative in 2015. The initiative has now been expanded to other universities, including one in Israel. This article is presented by NYU Shanghai.

17 May 2018 - The GoGreen initiative, which started at United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) member institution New York University Shanghai three years ago and has spread through the NYU global network to New York and Abu Dhabi, has now reached its first Israeli university, Ariel University.

This institution of higher education hosted the global GoGreen initiative for raising awareness about environmental issues and showing how students can solve them through their studies and careers. At Ariel University, the initiative was founded by Sharin Mor and Aviva Fredj, students of chemical engineering.

This action was undertaken as part of the university’s "Green Campus" project and in collaboration with the student government. Inspired by the annual GoGreen Week at NYU Shanghai, the students organized an eventful day on campus with short talks by university professors about green alternatives for the future in their fields.

In addition, students donated books for reusing and recycled plastic bottles in exchange for reusable ones. “When I saw the events organized at NYU Shanghai and the high involvement of students in them, I realized that there is also a need here in Ariel University to make environmental solutions part of our daily conversation,” said Mor.

The future engineer also noted that it is important to encourage all students to participate in a variety of interactive forms. Ariel University plans to continue wiht the GoGreen initiative on campus in the future in order to involve more students willing to contribute to a greener future.
