Nazareth College of Arts and Science, established in the year 2000, by C & D Educational Trust, is situated at a peaceful environment in the outskirts of Chennai. It is affiliated to the University of Madras and accredited with ‘B’ Grade by National Accreditation body of the UGC. The College is recognised under 2f of the UGC Act. The college offers 8 undergraduate and 4 postgraduate courses.The college gives preference in admitting the students who hail from economically and socially underprivileged community. Students of denotified community are the first recipients of welfare measures introduced by the college. The Vision of the college is to build enriched socially responsible citizens and leaders through quality higher education. The mission is as follows: 1. To provide the best resources to impart the highest quality education. 2. To provide opportunities to the students for practical exposure to meet the challengers of global competency. 3. To provide value-based education for nation building. 4. To provide creativity leadership training and placement. The institution offers non-conventional job-oriented courses and has the best infrastructural facilities to accomplish its core vision. The members of the faculties are profound in their academic knowledge and carry out different research projects to facilitate the best teaching and learning process. Nazareth offers the best teacher–student ratio to provide a greater academic/emotional support to every student. Nazareth College aims at the holistic development of the students and provide opportunities to gain greater and deeper academic knowledge to harness their personality. They experience the value of education and find their purpose of existence. The various value-added courses such as English Enhancement Course, Destination Excellence Programme, Internship Programme and Industry Preparatory Programmes help them to prepare themselves for nation building. The non-scholastic activities like Sports, National Service Scheme, Red Ribbon Club, Youth Red Cross. Student Project and ED cell, Rotaract and other different clubs and associations provide a platform for every student to contribute to the society. The institution organises various gender equity promotion programmes, adopts environmentally friendly practice, and facilitates the Divyangian friendly campus to instill the concern for human values and professional ethics. Nazareth College of Arts and Science was founded by C & D Educational Trust and is a part of a large educational group called Nazareth in the year 2000 and is located in the suburbs of Chennai, just 15 minutes from Avadi, which houses India's only Army Tank factory and Depot. The College is uniquely positioned to contribute to, and draw from, the strength and diversity of this sublime metropolis. Education opportunity for all: Ever since its establishment, it has been on the mission of imparting quality tertiary education to those who attend college for the first time in their generation while meeting the competitive standards and growing requisites of contemporary learning society. It is always a mile ahead in working towards one of his noble aims of Higher studies for the lost, last and least. NO students is denied education based on religion, caste, creed or social economic status. The college is re- accredited with ‘B’ Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in the year 2019. Our faculty members and students are forerunners, creators, teachers, researchers, and change agents. We believe in what Mahatma Gandhi said,” You must be the change you want to see in the world”. We encourage right questioning for right change! The academic programmes offered in the college are known for their emphasis on self-thinking and broad exposure to the full range of intellectual discovery. Primary objectives of Nazareth are to provide an inclusive higher education to all the students, increase the student’s enrolment in higher education, to equip them with self-confidence and teach self- discipline to overcome various challenges in the society, to create employability skills for job opportunities, to harness creativity, nurture talents and enhance entrepreneurial skills, to create outstanding personalities in the field of sports and games. The college offers seven under graduate programmes and four post graduate programmes. Corporate and Secretaryship branches have been started to advance the employability features of students’ degree course. The College has signed MOUs with many academies that provide certificate courses on sundry soft skills and marketability. The college’s best designed mentoring system monitors the mental and maturity of students in regaining their confidence and recouping their energy for an active academic life. Practicing innovative methods such as ICT in delivering the curricula framed by the University of Madras has attracted admission considerably. Students who are interested in sports and games are given priority in admission and offered concession in tuition fee. The College gives preference to the students who hail from economically and socially underprivileged community in admission. Students of denotified community are the first recipients of welfare measures introduced by the college. The college financially assists students who are in abject penury through which it uplifts their families as a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The Alumni of the college are given preference in recruitment and are appointed and trained for their position. Through Nazareth Emergency Relief & Rehab Foundation (NERF), the college reaches the needy whenever it finds people in want of basic amenities. The Nazareth Online Community for Knowledge Sharing (www.nocks.in) is an online forum that promotes knowledge sharing and enriches the student’s knowledge in current trends. The College Placement Cell focuses on finding job in their after graduation life. Individual mentoring system, enables teachers to figure out the students’ problems in learning and improving themselves. They capacitate students to get over any distractions and psychological barriers in their studies. Some of the best practices of the college are: Student Reformation Cell This cell undertakes the reformation of students who have behavior issues and are issued warning letters and suspension orders. Such students are placed in different NGOs for social service to understand the realities of life with an attempt to make changes in their thinking and attitude. Outreach Cell Outreach cell pf Nazareth focuses on giving an opportunity to the faculty and students to contribute to the holistic development of the under privileged and the people in need. The cell reaches out to these people through programs and contributes by cash or kind. HEPSN This cell focuses on developing the differently abled students of Nazareth Group of institutions. Individual attention will be given to the students. Workshops, training programs etc, will be organised both for the students and the parents. GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP: United Nations Observances: The colleges believe in observing the International events as charted out by the United Nations every year. By creating special observances, the college supports the United Nations in promoting international awareness and action on issues related to the events. The various programmes are anchored by the National Cadet Corps, National Social Service Scheme, Youth Red Cross, Red Ribbon Club, Dramatics & Book reading Club, and Social Enterprises. Unnat Bharath Abhiyan: Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is inspired by the vision of transformational change in rural development processes by leveraging knowledge institutions to help build the architecture of an Inclusive India. The Mission of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is to enable higher educational institutions to work with the people of rural India in identifying development challenges and evolving appropriate solutions for accelerating sustainable growth. It also aims to create a virtuous cycle between society and an inclusive academic system by providing knowledge and practices for emerging professions and to upgrade the capabilities of both the public and the private sectors in responding to the development needs of rural India. Nazareth College shares the vision of the country and has adopted 5 villages under the scheme to bring about transformational change in rural development. Community Tool Box: Community Tool Box is a group of social initiatives of Nazareth Institution started to inculcate Social Responsibility among the students of Nazareth and more so to increase continuous field exposure to students from the department. The students learn about community assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, advocacy, and other aspects of community practice. All the students in the college enrolled are permanent volunteers of the community tool box.
