Dag Hammarskjöld Fund for Journalists – 2017 Fellowship Programme

The Dag Hammarskjöld Fund for Journalists is currently accepting applications for its 2017 fellowship programme. The fellowships are available to radio, TV, print and web journalists, age 25 to 35, who are native to one of the developing countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America/ the Caribbean, and are actively working for media organizations. The application deadline is 20 March 2017.

The four selected journalists will report on international affairs during the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly. The fellowships will commence in early September and extend to late November. The cost of travel and accommodations as well as per diem allowance in New York are included. Applicants are required to submit a letter of consent from their media organizations to spend up to 3 months in New York to report from the United Nations.

Demonstrating an interest and dedication to international affairs as well as to communicating the visions and works of the United Nations to global audiences for a better understanding of the organization is a principal requirement for fellowship candidates. In relation to our rotation policy on recipient countries, applications from countries selected in 2016 (Argentina, Indonesia, Iran, and Tajikistan) will not be considered for the Fund this year. Journalists from these four countries are welcome to apply next year.

Every year the Dag Hammarskjöld Fund provides the fellowships to four journalists. International exposure and invaluable opportunities are given to the selected journalists to observe international diplomatic deliberations at the United Nations, shape their views and perspectives on global concerns, interact with fellow journalists from other countries, and expand their networks and professional contacts. The experience of participating in the programme has positively contributed to the professional career of many past fellows. All participants are media professionals; the programme is not intended to provide basic training skills to journalists.

Full fellowship eligibility criteria and documentation requirements as well as the fellowship application form can be found on the Fund’s web site at www.unjournalismfellowship.org  Questions about the programme, eligibility and application process can be directed by email to fellowship2017@unjournalismfellowship.org.
