Behind the Scenes of the United Nations General Assembly: Kevin O Hanlon, Deputy Chief of Security

The world’s largest gathering of international dignitaries is being held this week at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City! Over the next week we will be introducing some of the people behind the scenes of the UN General Assembly who make what has been called the World Cup of Diplomacy happen! Over the course of the series we’ll get a firsthand glimpse into various departments within the UN and how they prepare for some of the busiest weeks of the year at the United Nations.

The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) focuses on integrated security decision-making policies to ensure the highest level of safety for staff members at the United Nations. The UNDSS staff deal with a wide range of Security issues including event security, hostage incident management, explosive detection, physical security, threat analysis, protective security services and more!

Next up in our series we sit down with Kevin O Hanlon, Deputy Chief of the Security & Safety Services here at UN Headquarters. He describes how his team prepares to protect Heads of State from all over the world, and create a safe environment for staff at Headquarters.
