70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights will be discussed at the University of Georgia School of Law

19 September 2018 - The Dean Rusk International Law Center at the University of Georgia School of Law (United States), a member institution of the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI), has spearheaded an array of events designed to promote discussion and analysis of issues related to international, comparative, transnational, and foreign affairs law and policy. On 6 November 2018, there will be an lecture entitled The Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 70.

The lecture, co-sponsored by the International Law Society, will take place at Classroom F (246) - Hirsch Hall and will be held within the framework of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was adopted on 10 December 1948 by the United Nations General Assembly. The Declaration is the key source of inspiration for contemporary instruments and standards of International Human Rights Law all around the world.

Laura Olson will be the keynote speaker. She currently serves as Director of the Human Rights Program at the Carter Center in the city of Atlanta. Olson previously held high-ranking positions as a Legal Advisor at the International Committee of the Red Cross and in the United States Department of State and the United States Department of Homeland Security.
