On 10 June 2020: Webinar on Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction

The All India Disaster Mitigation Institute (AIDMI) and the Research Network on Disaster, Environment and Society (ReNDES) of the University of Auckland, the UNAI Hub for SDG 4, have recently published a book in tribute to the contribution of Zenaida Delica-Willison to disaster risk reduction. The document is available from the RenDES website: https://rendes.org/publications. Zen has worked with local people, NGOs, networks of civil society organisations, local and national government, and international organizations both in her native Philippines and all over the world. Her continuing advocacy to make actions to reduce disaster risk people-centered and inclusive has been a critical factor in the progressive uptake and success of what is nowadays known as Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction. A webinar is being organized to launch the book. This event will happen via Zoom on 10 June at 4:00pm Philippines time (4:00am EDT). A panel of stakeholders composed of Zenaida Delica-Willison herself, Lorna Victoria (Center for Disaster Preparedness), Bruno Haghebaert (International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies), Andrew McElroy (UNDRR) and Ben Wisner (University College London) will discuss how Zen’s and others’ experiences of community-based disaster risk reduction may help deal with the current COVID-19 crisis. Please RSVP to researchnetworkdes@gmail.com to get the Zoom meeting link.
