USEK students delegation visits UNIFIL

UNAI Member USEK sent this account of a student visit to UNIFIL. The Student Affairs Office of the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik-Lebanon (USEK) has organized, with the help of a group of students, a field visit for a students delegation to the Korean Contingent in the United Nations Interim Forces. The Contingent ROKBATT is stationed in Tayr debba-South of Lebanon. The visit was organized within the framework of UNAI and on the occasion of the International Day of the United Nations Peacekeepers.

Do One Thing for Diversity and Inclusion

The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) in partnership with UNESCO and a wide coalition of partners from corporations to civil society is launching the world campaign “Do One Thing for Diversity and Inclusion”, aimed at engaging people around the world to Do One Thing to support Cultural Diversity and Inclusion.

Following the adoption in 2001 of the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity the UN General Assembly declared May 21 as the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.

‎24-year-old Ronan Farrow is a Special Adviser to U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton for global youth issues and director of the U.S. State Department’s Global Youth Issues office. Declaration of Sentiments

On 20 July 1848, a group of women and men adopted the Declaration of Sentiments at a convention called to address the plight of women in 19th century society, held at Seneca Falls, New York. On Nelson Mandela International Day, a group of UN staff volunteered over 67 minutes each to paint benches in Central Park and sent birthday wishes with a cake that read Happy Birthday Madiba!!!

South Sudan became today the 193rd UN Member State. The newest African nation declared its independence from Sudan on 9 July after over two decades of civil war between north and South Sudan.

“Getting the Facts Right”

On 4 May 2011 “Getting the Facts Right” celebrated the first-ever issue of the UN Yearbook as an e-book. The panel included Prof. Robin Andersen and student Norhan Basuni from UNAI members Fordham University and CUNY Baccalaureate, as well as Prof. Pamela Falk, and Roland Schatz, from Media Tenor. Robert Bullock, New York State Archive, served as moderator.
