Forum on MOOCs at UN Headquarters, 19 June 2014

The Rockefeller Institute of Government of SUNY and the United Nations Academic Impact hosted a forum on MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) in the Developing World on 19 June 2014 at United Nations Headquarters. The event is also sponsored by the Institute for International Education (IIE). The forum too the form of a debate: will massive open online courses (MOOCs) provide worldwide access to quality higher education, as advocates maintain? Or will MOOCs, as critics fear, foster Western academic dominance, fail to serve those most in need, and undermine local institutions?

Winners of multilingual essay contest to meet at UN Headquarters on 27 June 2014

Sixty college and university students from 26 countries have been invited to attend a youth forum at UN Headquarters on 27 June 2014 to discuss the role of multilingualism in a globalized world. They are winners of an international essay contest, organized by ELS Educational Services, Inc. and the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) of the Department of Public Information.

KazNU to host conference on education

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the UNAI global hub on sustainability, will host the III Asian Universities Forum in Almaty on 21 – 23 May 2014. The theme of the conference is: “Eurasian diversity and the role of universities in sustainable development.”

As the conflict in the Central Africa Republic continues to widen, world leaders have expressed support to the call by the United Nations Secretary-General to end the fighting. The 1984 Nobel Peace Prize Winner Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu of South Africa issued the following statement on 20 April in Cape Town.

ECA to launch new report on Africa at UNHQ on 11 April

The Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSSA) is inviting UNAI members, especially those in New York and neighbouring states, to the New York launch of the 2014 economic report on Africa, which will take place on 11 April 2014 from 10:00 – 12:00 noon in the Trusteeship Council Chamber at UN Headquarters.
